On the third day after the 9/11 attacks, ironworker Frank Silecchia
was walking through the rubble when he stumbled upon an incredible find:
Two giant steel beams that had broken off in the shape of a cross from the 67th
floor of the World Trade Center Tower and landed upright in the rubble. This find
lead Ground Zero to be nicknamed “God’s House.” Sunday prayers at Ground Zero
were held for 9/11 Rescue Workers in front of this Cross, which now sits in the
National September 11 Memorial & Museum. This image, taken before rust and
time covered over the scrawled names of the missing etched into the steel, is
widely regarded as the finest ever taken of this iconic artifact. Now, after 14
years, it is brought to you in the form of a special collector’s T-Shirt.
